How do I choose a good tree service especially in Denver?

Choose a company that is:
Professional with high production equipment and crew.
Local, working in the area, using only US. Citizens
Licensed & insured (workers compensation and general liability).
Midsized - owner supervised, fewer employees, less overhead.

The way to spend less on your trees in a recession is to keep them healthy. Have a professional inspect them for decease, pests, and other issues in your trees.

In a very concise answer there are 5 areas to address for a healthy tree.
1. Root and soil preservation - apply 3" of mulch afoot or two pass the drip line of the tree back to the trunk.

2. Adequate hydration - use a moisture tester to see how moist the roots are.

3. Have trees trimmed properly before they decline - dead branches, crossing, interfering, broken or stubs, thin thick areas for interior sun exposure.

4. Treat diseases - spray or remove by trimming and pests if present - systemic injection or remove by trimming.

5. Provide necessary nutrients if lacking - spray, inject, deep root, or top soil application).
